Biography
Director & FX Artist
Mike began making videos at the age of 9 when he discovered how to create stop motion animation with a chalkboard and a handicam. He expanded his skills in high school by teaching himself how to edit and create special effects. Relying on no one but himself (pre-internet) he taught himself 3d animation, compositing, design and basic cinematography. During this time Mike started a Toronto b-boy crew who were one of the first ever crews to have their videos on the internet. This popularized the crew and earned them worldwide respect in the late 90s… It was at this time Mike realized the potential of how persuasive videos could really be.
It was through break dancing that Mike honed his sense of rhythm which he displays through his editing. To this date editing dictates the feel of his videos before they’re even conceptualized based on the musical cues in a song. A strong traditional art background further determines every frame to stand on it’s own – even out of context.
Mike leads a double life as a Director and FX artist. He’s worked on numerous videos that have dominated Much Music for years now. He’s directed spots for companies like Labatt and Lululemon; and created FX or design for clients like Coca-Cola, Toshiba, and Muchmusic.
Internationally recognized recording artist Beenie Man called Mike directly on his cell phone long distance from Jamaica after watching his incredible fx work on the Beenie Man, 2G, and Chris S music video for “Pleasure By Invitation”. Mike says Beenie told him no other fx video could compare. And really isn’t that what you’d want to hear on that phone call!!!!!!
